Colombia Bucaramanga

Bucaramanga is the capital city of the department of Santander, in north-central Colombia. It has the fifth-largest economy in Colombia and more than 160 parks, earning it the nicknames “La Ciudad de Los Parques” and “La Ciudad Bonita de Colombia” (The City of Parks, and Colombia’s Beautiful City).

In 2014, Santander joined Cauca, Nariño and Huila in gaining recognition as a Protected Denomination of Origin (PDO) by Colombia’s Superintendence of Industry and Commerce. The process consisted of organization members visiting the region during three harvest cycles, collecting coffee samples and sensory information, and recording various information, from soil composition to cultural traditions, to determine the terroir and demonstrate the relationship between the coffee and the place.

Café de Santander, it was established, particularly benefits from more technologically advanced shading practices, homogenous temperatures that promote the accumulation of sugars in the bean and concentrated harvests, as well as good soil characteristics. Together, these are said to produce a cup with a clean, balanced body, medium acidity, sweet fragrance, and sweet, fruity and light-citrus notes.

This coffee is a blend from producers in the surrounding Bucaramanga area, who work with InterAmerican’s sister export company in Colombia, SKN Caribecafe.

Cupping notes: Chocolate, nutty, lime; clean and consistent.
