Finca El Recreo was purchased in 1920 by Elias Fernandez Gutierrez—a Spaniard who fell in love with the climate and coffee of Guatemala. This beautiful farm climbs from 1,200 to 1,830 meters in the Santa Cruz Naranjo region.
When Don Elias passed away, his youngest daughter, Elsa Hortensia, inherited El Recreo. Today, her youngest son, Nils Leporowski (pictured), manages the farm with the same passion for quality that inspired his parents and grandparents.
After harvest, the cherries are brought to the wet mill on the farm where they are machine de-pulped, fermented for 24 hours and fully washed. Afterward, the beans are dried for 5 to 8 days on patios.
Finca El Recreo is active in its community, supporting local health centers and schools in the nearby area.
