Kenya Rungeto Karimikui

Kenya Rungeto Karimikui represents coffee from the Karimikui factory in Kirinyaga County. This factory, along with the Kii and Kangoi factories, comprise the Rungeto Farmers’ Cooperative Society. The Rungeto FCS was founded in 1997 as a reorganization of the former Ngiriama Cooperative.

Building upon the region's longstanding reputation for high-quality coffee, Runget0 FCS has implemented several processes to further elevate quality and address environmental sustainability. For example, it installed easy-to-clean tiles on all the washing channel fermentation tanks. It organizes agronomy trainings to educate farmers about disease prevention within susceptible varietals. And additionally, it ensures that water from coffee processing is reused in other areas of the farm.

Karimikui Factory

Karimikui factory is comprised of 1,400 farmers who grow coffee in loamy clay soil between 1,600 and 1,800 masl. Quality control in the factory is multi-leveled. Ripe cherries are sorted before they are pulped. Parchment is fermented overnight and then washed and graded into P1, P2, P3, P lights and pods. Lastly, parchment is dried on raised tables for 8 to 14 days. The finished product is a complex, juicy and clean cup.

(We are proud to offer other select lots produced by Rungeto FCS, including Kenya Mugaga Kagumoini and Kenya Rungeto Kii AB.)

Cupping notes: Citrus, stone fruit, tropical fruit, berries, melon. Complex acidity, juicy body.
