The state of Oaxaca can be roughly divided into several distinct microclimates, each characterized by its unique weather and vegetation patterns. These diverse microclimates make Oaxaca a region rich in biodiversity and ideal for agriculture, including the production of coffee.

Organic Coffee Growers of Oaxaca

Organic Coffee Growers of Oaxaca (CORO) is comprised of producers from several regions in Oaxaca, including Cañada, Mixtec, Papaloapan, Sierra Norte, Sierra Sur, Istmo and Costa.

This cooperative is comprised of 2519 producers — 44% of whom are women — representing six indigenous ethnic groups. CORO provides essential services to its members, including agricultural and social programs, assistance with marketing and market access, as well as certifications and milling services. All of this is toward the goal of improving the quality of life for indigenous communities by increasing family income.

Mexico Oaxaca from CORO is fully washed Typica, Caturra, Catuai, Bourbon, Sarchimor, and Marsellesa varieties.

Cupping Notes: Dark chocolate, lemon, orange, almond.

 

Union de Productores Las Flores

Union de Productores Las Flores is based in the town of Eloxochitlán de Flores Magón. This supplier is about 6 hours east of Mixteca, in La Cañada, Oaxaca. Each smallholder member owns and cultivates roughly .5 - 3 hectares. They grow mostly Mundo Novo, Bourbon, Typica, and Criollo varieties.

Mexico Oaxaca from Union de Productores Las Flores is wet milled by individual producers and then transported in parchment to the UPLF beneficio. The majority of La Cañada farmers, pickers, and beneficio workers still speak the indigenous language of the region. They often consolidate their coffee with "Mixteca Alta del Pacifico" to build full containers.
